2016 Long John Jamboree Event Schedule

 March 22, 2016 | YELLOWKNIFE, NT

It’s almost here! The ice of Yellowknife Bay will be home this weekend to music, games, food and a whole lot of fun for the family at the 5th annual Long John Jamboree.

Here is what we have in store for Year 5:

This year we are proud to present our first Curling tournament, the “John”spiel! Teams will be experiencing curling on a frozen bay while dressed in costume. You’ve never seen curling like this before! Also making its debut this year is the Northern Putting Challenge where Ice Hockey meets Mini-Putt. Happy Gilmore would be in his element! Speaking of hockey, we’ll also be featuring a 3-on-3 Hockey tournament. Our snow stage will also be home to Jiu Jitsu demonstrations and you can relax as well with Snow Yoga.

Returning for another year are the Trivia Challenge, Float Plane tours, Ice Fishing, our Kids’ Tent, Carnival games, Snow Beach Volleyball, Skijoring and Terriers & Tiaras! An event schedule can be found on our website at longjohnjamboree.ca.

Our music tent features all local performers this year with acts such as “Double Treble”, “Rebels Without Applause”, “Kevin and Noha” and we conclude on Sunday afternoon with Canada’s house band of the north, “Welder’s Daughter”.

This year’s “Fire and Ice” event begins Saturday evening at 6 in the music tent with Yellowknife favourites “The Sociables”. Then it’s the annual Burn On the Bay by the YK Burners at 8pm followed by a special performance on our Snow Stage at 8:45. The night concludes back in the music tent with a performance at 9pm by “3 Across Dee Eye”. Due to budget cutbacks, regretfully we announce that fireworks will not be shown this year.

To reduce traffic on the ice, we do encourage visitors to take public transportation, walk or carpool to the Long John Jamboree site.

The 5th Annual Long John Jamboree – Yellowknife’s Celebration of Winter on Ice takes place March 25-27th on the ice of Yellowknife Bay.
